Love and Courage tells the story of the author’s life – a life of real commitment and often insubordination to the powers that be. It provides too the inside story of her part in some of the controversial debates within the African National Congress on issues like the arms deal and HIV/AIDS.

For those many who are increasingly disenchanted with the use of power by those in positions of authority to garner influence and wealth, to promote their individual interests instead of those of the people who have elected them, and to bully, manipulate and coerce others, Govender offers a refreshing vision and example of true power based on love and courage. Instead of the often unappetising choices presented to us by politicians, she shows what richer ways and opportunities there are for us to live our lives in South Africa.
